 JONES FAMILY

John JONES married Mary WILLIAMS in Chipping Norton Oxfordshire England in 1818. They had 4 children before John died at the age of 31 years old in 1831. It is unknown where John was born. Mary was born in the area. Their children were John, James, Elizabeth and William. John disappeared from the scene it is not known if he died or left the area. James became the father of the father who came to Australia in 1848. Elizabeth died as a spinster. William married a cousin of James's wife and had 2 children before he also died at a young age. James, who came to Australia died in Goodwood, Adelaide South Australia aged 93 years old. He and his wife Fanny had 14 children.

James and Fanny JONES arrived on the Rajah in 1848 with 2 sons and a daughter born on the ship on the way out. They settled in Crystal Brook in the Adelaide foothills, where the remaining 11 children where born. They lost 1 son to scarlet fever aged 2 years. James went for a time to the gold fields in Victoria before returning to Adelaide and his family. They moved to Belalie North near Jamestown where they farmed. James could read and write and loved writing to his family. James, John and Elizabeth all left South Australia and lived for a time in Victoria. James Junior died in Victoria, Elizabeth died in Nhill in New South Wales, John died in Perth, Western Australia after farming for a number of years in Dowerin, Western Australia.

Descendants of the James and Fanny now live all over Australia and in some parts of Europe.
