 INNERD FAMILY

 

Robert INNERD married in Wearmouth, Durham, England on the 8th February 1789 to Jane ATKINSON. Where he came from is a matter of interest but at this stage unknown. Robert and Jane had a son Robert born on the 7th March 1790 in Bishopswearmouth, Durham, England before Jane died. Robert then remarried on the 30th December 1793 to Mary MacPherson in Bishopswearmouth, Durham, England. Mary and Robert had 1 daughter Mary born 18th September 1795.

Robert Junior married to Mary HENDERSON on 29th April 1816 in All Saints Church, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. Robert and Mary had 14 children of which only 5 know survived infancy. There may have been a couple more but because I do not have access to records in Newcastle Upon Tyne I cannot verify if any others lived. There was 4 sons and 1 daughter. The only daughter Sarah married William Crawford ALBURT, they had 1 daughter, who died as an infant before immigrating to Queensland, Australia. Sarah did not have a good life, she saw the deaths of 3 of her five children. She died in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia on the 19th April 1865. Her husband remarried and had a further 2 children.

The sons who survived married and had a number of children between them. Only William Stannington INNERD married late in life to a widow with at least 2 children, and did not have any children of his own. There is at least 25 children born between the 3 brothers but I am unable to find out which belongs to which family. A large number of the children died as infants. When I can I am going to have to get someone to go though the records for me to find out who belongs to who.

The first mention of the name in England is in 1693 in London, with various mentions of the name in the south of England before Robert appears in Durham. There is not enough mentions of the name to say that they are all related. There is the odd mention of the name in Surrey, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Sussex. After the first mention of the name the next one is in Surrey in 1738, then in Hertfordshire in 1841. There has been talk the maybe the name comes from France. This is a name I am very interested in researching more. Occupation is generally given as flaxdresser.
