FAMILY HISTORY
HOMEPAGE
I would like to introduce you to my family tree page. I have been researching for 10 years and have plenty more research to do. I am researching family in Isle of Man, Ireland, England, Scotland, France and Australia - Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. The first of my family to arrive in Australia was in 1790 with the last arriving pre 1891.
My interest in Family History started when I was about 7 or 8 years old. My father would tell me stories of how his grandmother was descendant from Mary - Queen of Scots (this I have never been able to prove and it is likely that it was fantasy anyway.) There was also stories of his grandparents where cousins. This I have been able to disprove.
I have hit brick walls as many others have before me and continue to do so. I leave that family alone for a while then there will be a breakthrough again and the family progresses a generation or so back further. Other times the breakthroughs comes few and far between and it seems that I will never get any further back. I hope that this is not the case that somewhere, somehow I will find these families.
I am researching in County Clare and Dublin in Ireland, Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, London, Durham, Northumberland, Lancastershire, Yorkshire in England. Roxburgh, Lanarkshire, Angus, Perthshire in Scotland.
I have 6 convicts with the possibilty of there been a couple more. All my convicts came into New South Wales - FLOOD, HACKER, HAINSLEY (ANNESLEY), JARMY, WATERTON, WATSON.
The first recorded birth of the family on Australian soil was in 1797 of John FLOOD to Joseph FLOOD and Ann JARMY.
My research has been rewarding and fulfilling. The more I research to more I become intrigued with the families and how they survived. They had hard times and saw only a few of their children live to carry on the family name. When they travelled to Australia most of them never had any contact with their families in England, Scotland or Ireland again as they could not read or write. Those that could read and write did write back to England as in the case of James BRUMBY, his nephews followed him to Australia after is wrote to is family in Scotton, Lincolnshire.
They lived with illness that claimed their children and land that was totally different from what they knew in the United Kingdom. They found adversity and won. They helped make Australia what it is today with the help of many other families in the same situation. They are a people to be very proud of. All of our forebearers are to be commended.
My families come from all walks of live. One is said to be a French COUNT but to date has not been proven. Agricultural Labourers, Farmers, Green Grocers, Lacemakers, Coal Miners, Gentlemen, Musicans, Soldiers, Public Servants, Stonemasons, Carpenters and Builders are a few professions that make up my family tree.
This site is still under construction. I have put on a number of families but many more to go on. The FLOOD, BRUMBY, DEWAR, JONES, RAMSAY, HOMEWOOD, GRAHAM and KELLY families have been listed, the FRASER family to added next.
